About

“Do you know what you call those who use towels and never wash them, eat meals and never do the dishes, sit in rooms they never clean, and are entertained till they drop? If you have just answered, "A house guest," you’re wrong because I have just described my kids." ~ Erma Bombeck

I’ve always loved Erma Bombeck. She was brilliant at keeping her sense of humor close by. Although I didn’t realize it when I was childless, Erma Bombeck would become one of my parenting idols.

The task of parenting isn’t always easy.  I’ve told nervous new mothers and fathers to  go easy on themselves – you can’t prepare for a tidal wave!

There are a multitude of books on parenting to guide you, but I’ve learned that nothing can truly prepare you for the task of parenting teenagers. You pretty much have to take it one mood swing at a time.

As the mother of two teens, I’ve found the best antidote for the frustration that can accompany parenting a teen (outside of the glorious escape of watching Jack Bauer kick-butt on ’24’) is to swap stories with other parents. Joining a teen parent support group is great too, though it doesn’t hurt to look into getting your hands on a prescription for Prozac.

So, please share! Anything that could bring the parenting community a smile, comfort, reassurance, or just advice will be welcomed. Others will be helped by your experience, I can guarantee you!

So, grab a Cup o’ Joe, get comfortable and hang with us awhile.

Welcome to the Cafe!

    • Hey Dale, good to hear from you! I’m glad you like the site – it’s my hope that parents of teens will find some solace in the fact that they’re not alone, and maybe we can all share some ideas on how to deal with teen issues.

All is great on this front, and I hope things are well with you! Best, Kim –
